Lungworm vaccine

A lungworm vaccine is used for immunisation against husk or lungworm infection in cattle. There is only one lungworm vaccine available on the market. The vaccine is highly effective and important for the development of immunity. Despite the availabilty of the vaccine, a high number of farmers have discontinued its use. A sharp increase in husk cases throughout the country especially in adult cattle has been reported. Vaccination against husk is a vital component in a cattle worm control strategy.

The vaccine is an aqueous suspension of third stage-infective Dictyocaulus viviparus larvae partially inactivated by ionizing radiation. It may only be prescribed by a veterinary surgeon from whom advice should be sought.
